Our clients were the Real Colegio Complutense (RCC) and Harvard Real Estate Services. Real Colegio Complutense was established by Complutense University of Madrid in cooperation with Harvard University. The Real Colegio Complutense connects Harvard to Spanish universities and promotes Spain’s culture operating from 26 Trowbridge Street in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. This building is managed by Harvard Real Estate Services.Harvard Real Estate asked Nilsson Associates to present options that provide wheel chair access to the first floor of this historic, academic/ cultural building. The design options that we presented represent a range of project sizes; from the simple addition of an uncovered exterior wheel chair with minor grading/pavement adjustments to an entry reconstruction that provides an interior entry stair and lift, as well as an elegant, new entry that serves the RCC and respects the historic character of their building. Nilsson Associates also designed interior modifications which included a structural, glazed flooring system to form a spectacular light well in an existing bay window.
